I started in roofing as a helper in my early twenties, learning from foremen who had been on Los Angeles roofs since the 1980s. They taught me the part of the trade that doesn't show up in marketing — how to read a deck before you cover it, how to detail a valley so it lasts forty years, how to leave a job site cleaner than you found it.
