Why Hermosa Beach calls us

A roofer you can actually reach.

Everything here is something you can check in five minutes — on Google, on the CSLB site, or by calling the number above.

  • Our office is at 4464 Vista Del Monte Ave, #202 in Sherman Oaks — and we work across Greater Los Angeles, Hermosa Beach included.
  • You talk to Sam, the owner — not a call center. We still answer our own phone.
  • Every roof is documented by drone, before and after. The full set is yours to keep.
  • Written, itemized pricing — materials, scope, and timeline in writing, never a verbal number.
  • A 10-year workmanship warranty, in writing, on every job.

Our work in Hermosa Beach

What Hermosa Beach roofs are up against.

Hermosa Beach is hard up against the Pacific, so marine air is the dominant force on its roofs. Salt and constant humidity corrode fasteners, flashing and exposed metal quickly, and the morning marine layer keeps roofs damp well into the day, which is tough on sealants and underlayment. Because the city is so compact and close to the water, almost every home — not just the front row along The Strand — gets meaningful salt exposure. Coastal storms add wind-driven rain that drives water sideways under flashing and into seams, a real problem on the flat-roof sections that are common here. When the sun does come out, UV ages exposed membranes. Add the wind that funnels between tall, closely spaced homes near Pier Ave, and you have a climate that finds every weak fastener and open seam.

Hermosa's lots are small and packed tight, and the roofs reflect a city mid-transition. The older single-story beach cottages — many of them decades old, scattered through the North End and along the Walk Streets — typically carry composition shingle or aging built-up roofs. Alongside them, and increasingly replacing them, are modern three-story rebuilds near The Strand and in East Hermosa that fill their narrow lots and lean heavily on flat and low-slope roof sections to maximize livable space and rooftop decks. Up in the Hermosa Hills, larger homes mix pitched and flat rooflines. On the modern homes we install TPO and modified-bitumen systems, with membranes where the assembly calls for it. On the remaining pitched cottages and mixed rooflines we install shingle systems. As an Preferred Contractor, we document those assemblies for warranty, and the drone pass is especially useful here, where a three-story roof crammed between neighbors is nearly impossible to inspect from the ground.

Roof repair. On the dense blocks of the Walk Streets and North End, most repairs are targeted: a corroded flashing joint, a slipped shingle, a failed pipe boot. We re-flash and re-seal with corrosion-resistant hardware, staging tight so a single repair doesn't tie up a whole walk street.

Roof replacement. When a cottage near Pier Ave has reached the end or an East Hermosa rebuild's flat deck has failed, we tear off to the deck, replace any damaged sheathing, and install a new shingle system or a fresh low-slope assembly — sequencing tear-off and material flow to keep narrow lots passable.

Every stage of our work is photographed by drone so you can see the deck before it's covered. That documentation isn't an extra — it's how we work on every roof.

Hermosa Beach rules that affect your roof

Title 24, fire zones, and old decking — what applies to your house.

We check what applies to your parcel before we quote, and we'll confirm it with the permitting authority for you.

Energy / cool roof (Title 24)

Hermosa Beach sits in California Energy Commission Climate Zone 6. Under Title 24, Part 6, a low-slope or flat roof here must use a cool-roof product (aged solar reflectance of at least 0.63 and thermal emittance of at least 0.75 — roughly SRI 75) when you replace 50% or more of the roof or about 1,000 sq ft or more. Steep-slope (pitched) residential roofs in Climate Zone 6 are exempt from the cool-roof requirement, so standard shingle or tile is fine. Small like-for-like repairs generally don't trigger it. See the California Energy Commission standards and the CRRC directory for rated products.

Fire

Hermosa Beach is a small flat coastal city and isn't in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, so a standard Class A roof is typical. Confirm your specific parcel. You can check any parcel on the CAL FIRE hazard-zone viewer.

Decking / sheathing

Many older Hermosa Beach homes were built with spaced 1×6 “skip” sheathing under the original roof. For a modern shingle or tile system — and for a Class A assembly — that decking often has to be overlaid with solid sheathing, and any rotted boards replaced. We confirm exactly what your roof needs with a deck inspection at tear-off, not a guess.

Color & materials

Roof color isn't regulated by code. Where a cool roof is required you need a CRRC-rated product that meets the SRI — and those come in a wide range of colors, not just white.

Financing

Financing available for qualified Hermosa Beach homeowners

You don't have to pay for a roof all at once: financing is available for qualified homeowners, subject to qualification — written itemized pricing first, financing second, never any pressure. And because Title 24 cool-roof products are qualifying energy improvements, a Hermosa Beach re-roof that needs one may also qualify for PACE-style energy financing — ask us and we'll confirm what applies to your property.
